Man made god

Man made god in his image and likeness, and the results are not flattering…The god most people claim to worship is allegedly loving, generous, all knowing, all powerful, and the prince of peace.  The one we actually do worship is needy, petty, jealous, vengeful, spiteful, murderous, and unforgiving.  This god is cruel, vain, unwilling to use his supposed power to help anyone. He is boastful, unreliable, and remote. We recognize this cluster of psychopathology in our fellow humans.  This is malicious Sociopathy, writ large.  This is Narcissistic Personality Disorder. This is Borderline Personality Disorder.  This god created evil, and personified it for us in the devil.  This god created hell, a place of eternal torture, and knows who of us are destined for hell, and who for heaven.  This god teases us with the notion of free will, when our individual fates are already known, predetermined.  Our worst human sins over the ages are normal to god, even carried out on the orders of god, including genocide, infanticide, murder, slavery, and rape.  The Ten Commandments do not even proscribe rape, or slavery.  The first three Commandments refer only to the need of god for worship and obedience. The rest are notable for what they omit.  And the 9th and 10th refer to thought crimes of “coveting”.  The god of Abraham, Mohammed,  the Christian version, and all the gods ever invented throughout history, are merely a mirror of man at his level worst.  And that is the best we can muster.  We are a sad, venal species, capable of greatness, and the basest and worst imaginable sins.  We should not and must not worship the worst in us, but the best in us.  That best is not found in the ancient texts, only the worst in us is found there.  If, by some fluke, we survive the next thousand years, perhaps the notion of god will be the subject of Anthropology and History, of Mythology and Literature.  There will be no Theology as such, except as a historical artifact.  And the better angels of our nature may then prevail.
